Construction ERP FAQs

Which is better, Acumatica or Odoo?

Neither, in the abstract. Acumatica is better for project-based construction that needs job cost, WIP, retainage and AIA billing. Odoo is better for inventory- and service-driven operations that want a lower entry price and an open-source foundation.

Can Odoo do construction job costing?

It has basic project costing, but not the construction-specific layer: committed cost, WIP schedules, retainage on both sides, AIA progress billing and certified payroll. For residential contractors and field service that may be enough. For commercial construction it is not.

Why does Dominate Solutions sell both?

So the recommendation can follow the business rather than the license. A partner who sells one platform has already decided what you need before the first call. We would rather be right than be consistent.

Can I start on Odoo and move to Acumatica later?

Yes, and for some companies that is the right sequence, but plan it deliberately. Every migration costs money and disruption, and the cheapest ERP decision is usually the one made once, correctly, for where the business is heading.

Can Odoo handle construction accounting?

It handles project tracking, timesheets, field service and invoicing well. For commercial contractors that need native AIA progress billing, retainage and certified payroll, Acumatica Construction Edition is the stronger fit.

Which is easier to learn, Acumatica or Odoo?

Odoo is generally quicker to learn for smaller teams because each app is focused. Acumatica has more depth to learn, in exchange for construction functions that would otherwise need add-ons.
