Worth knowing

Bill AIA progress applications? Odoo isn’t the right fit. Acumatica Construction Edition is built for that work.

Apps and modules

Odoo apps and modules: start small, add the rest later

Odoo is modular, which is a materially different commitment from buying a full enterprise suite on day one. You start with the applications the business actually needs and grow into the rest.

Who it’s for

Four operating profiles where Odoo wins

Ticket-based, inventory-driven or make-to-order work, rather than project billing.

01

Residential field service

HVAC, plumbing, electrical and solar teams running dispatch, scheduling, maintenance agreements and truck stock.

02

Distribution and wholesale

Multi-warehouse inventory, purchasing, landed cost and barcode picking. The margin lives in inventory accuracy.

03

Fabrication and light manufacturing

Work orders, bills of material and routings for make-to-order shops outgrowing QuickBooks and a whiteboard.

04

Companies that want to own the system

Open source means your technical team can extend Odoo themselves instead of filing change requests.

Watch: what Odoo is and how it works

A short overview from Odoo of how the platform works: start with the apps you need, add the rest as you grow, and keep everything connected.

Both, delivered

Most partners sell one product, which means the recommendation is decided before the first call.
We deliver both Acumatica and Odoo.

So when we recommend one, it is because it fits your business.
If the other one is the better answer, we will say so.

Odoo questions

Is Odoo good for construction?

For residential contractors and field service operations, it can work well. For commercial construction, no. Odoo does not do AIA progress billing, retainage tracking or certified payroll the way a commercial contractor needs them, and building that machinery yourself is not a project worth taking on. If you are doing commercial work, Acumatica Construction Edition is the answer and we will say so on the first call.

How much does Odoo cost compared to Acumatica?

Materially less at the entry point, which is the main reason it comes up. Odoo licenses per user per month with the modules you enable, so a small office team on a handful of applications is a genuinely modest number. Note the inversion though: Odoo’s per-user model gets more expensive as you add people, while Acumatica’s consumption model does not. For a crew-heavy contractor putting a hundred field users on the system, the lines can cross.

What does open source actually get me?

Access to the source and the ability to extend the system without asking permission. That is worth a great deal to a company with technical capability and very little to one without. Open source lowers the licensing floor while raising the value of having a good partner. Customization you cannot maintain is a liability, not an asset. We build so that your team can own it.

Can I start on Odoo and move to Acumatica later?

You can, and some companies should. A $12M fabricator that expects to be a $40M project-based contractor in five years has a real decision to make. But plan it deliberately. Every migration costs money and disruption, and the cheapest ERP decision is usually the one you make once, correctly, for where the business is heading rather than where it sits today.
