Dynamics SL and Dynamics GP end of support: what should you do?
You don’t get to choose whether to move. You do get to choose when, to what, and whether the cutover lands on your terms or on Microsoft’s deadline.
By Rob Griffin, Founder and Principal · Updated
- 1Microsoft ends support for Dynamics SL on July 12, 2028 and for Dynamics GP on December 31, 2029.

What SL and GP customers tell us once the end-of-support letter arrives.
Where SL and GP companies should go next
Short answer: Microsoft will point you to Business Central. For a project-based company, test every option against the four-part construction test first: AIA billing from the schedule of values, retainage on both sides, certified payroll from the same time data, and cost-to-complete on a running job.
Dynamics SL was one of the few mid-market systems built around projects, which is why so many contractors and project-based services firms run on it. Acumatica is the most direct path for those companies because its project accounting and construction edition carry the same project-first design, in the cloud.

When does Dynamics SL support end?
+
Microsoft ends support for Dynamics SL on July 12, 2028. After that date there are no security updates, tax updates or fixes.
When does Dynamics GP support end?
+
Microsoft ends support for Dynamics GP on December 31, 2029.
Should Dynamics SL customers move to Business Central?
+
Business Central is Microsoft’s recommended path, but it is a general business system. Project-based companies should test it, and alternatives such as Acumatica, against AIA billing, retainage, certified payroll and cost-to-complete before deciding.
How long does a Dynamics SL to Acumatica migration take?
+
Most mid-market migrations go live in a few months once discovery is complete. Plan 12 to 18 months ahead of the deadline so the cutover can land at a fiscal year end.
